The Secretary of Transportation specifically awarded the Transportation Distinguished Service medal to Coast Guard Personnel for exceptionally meritorious service to the U.S. Government. The medal engraves a triskelion on a black disk above two anchors and is circled by a green garland of laurels. It is worn after the Navy cross and before the Defence Distinguished Service medal.
