Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal

The United States Department of Defense presents the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal Ribbon to Military personnel who have performed volunteer service beyond duty towards the United States Department of Defense. There is no designated period of service to receive this medal. The OVSM Ribbon was first established on 9 January 1993. A green vertical stripe bisects the ribbon at the center, flanked on either side by vertical yellow stripes, thin vertical green stripes, vertical blue stripes, thin vertical yellow stripes, and thin vertical blue stripes at the edges.
