The Vietnam Service Medal was awarded to the United States Armed Forces members who served in Vietnam and its adjacent waters or airspace from 3 July 1965 to 28 March 1973. The medal is also awarded to U.S. personnel who directly support operations in Vietnam while being in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos through airspace. The medal has an engraving of a dragon behind a bamboo grove with an inscription reading the Republic of Vietnam Service beneath the bamboo grove.
